Amy Pearson
Amy K. Pearson, an American, has taught science for 40 years as a faculty member of the Bancroft School, an independent day school in Worcester, Massachusetts. Since 1997, she has traveled to Bermuda annually to study, teach and learn about island ecology. She has worked with groups of teachers but more often high school students, introducing them to the unique ecology of an oceanic island. She was chosen to be a 2007 National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Teacher at Sea, spending seventeen days on a NOAA research vessel. She has also received the Bancroft School Carpe Diem Award for excellence in teaching. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Clark University in Worcester, MA. Observing the delicate balance of coastal plants, especially on a tiny, isolated island, stimulated her desire to show others their beauty and importance in nature.
